Clinical training, and years inside the traditions

Ten years of clinical training, and years spent inside the traditions themselves, from Malta to the Amazon.

How I came to this work

My own path into this work was not a straight line. In my teens and into my twenties I dealt with real anxiety and depression, alongside chronic fatigue and joint pain that psychotherapy alone eased but did not fully resolve. It was years later, after I started working with psychedelics and plant medicine in Mexico and Peru, that I felt something shift in a way talk therapy had not reached on its own. That combination, clinical training and lived experience of the medicine, is why I hold both together in my practice now.

I do not believe medicine or therapy alone changes people. What works is support that meets you at more than one level, and daily habits that anchor the change once it starts.

How I trained

I started the Gestalt therapy diploma at 19, the youngest person in Malta to do so at the time. My clinical base is a Master’s in Gestalt psychotherapy from EAPTI-GPTIM, the European Accredited Psychotherapy Training Institute in Malta. I hold a warrant to practise psychotherapy, issued by the Malta Council for the Psychotherapy Profession. Gestalt is a recognised school of psychotherapy that works with what happens in you here and now, not only with the story of the past; I describe it plainly on the trauma therapy page.

Around that base: a certification in psychedelic harm reduction and integration (Canada), a certification in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy from the EFT & Mindfulness Centre in the UK, Trauma Release Process training in the UK, and a certification in life coaching (Australia). I also hold a Master’s in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship from the University of Malta.

Where I have practised

More than ten years of practice, including social services and multi-disciplinary clinics in Malta, plus teaching meditation, running courses and workshops, and holding retreats across Peru, Mexico, Spain and Malta, alongside private practice online. And years as a student inside the traditions themselves: four master plant diets in the Amazon and five Vision Quests in the Nahuatl tradition of Mexico, the last one seven days long. That combination, clinical training plus lived experience, is the core of my integration and preparation work.

I live in Guadalajara, Mexico, and work mostly online, with clients in the US, Canada and Europe.

What a session is like

I start by listening to your story, but also to what you actually want from the work and what you believe could help, because those are not always the same thing. As you talk, I am paying close attention to your body language too: a lot becomes clear at a level underneath the words. I will ask questions until we both agree on what we are actually working on, so we are not chasing the wrong thread from session one.

From there, sessions move between talking and somatic practice: mindfulness, mind-body work, nervous system regulation. Much of what I do is about helping you build both internal and external support, and setting up daily habits that anchor you and point your life in the direction you actually want it to go.

I may also include shamanic, spiritual and energetic exercises in our work together, always at your choice. I will ask directly whether you would like this to be part of your sessions, not assume it.
